An Indoor Emergency is the causality of ironic anxiety when looking at the outside from the inside. The emergency that we (Me and Shelby!) are grappling with is a suffering from a perpetual, systematic disconnection from nature. 2020 was a shared indoor emergency: a feeling of helplessness from an isolation not only away from people but also natural environments. We feel emergencies in binaries [synthetic/organic, experiencing/documenting, near/far, clean/dirty] as they reveal a limited lived experience.
The three part video is motivated by the routines developed during self-quarantine which we specifically explore in the actions of communication and cleaning. The glitches, the longing, the misunderstandings, and the flat images in our video are a shared, common language of contemporary society; that which sustains human connection through technology during the COVID-19 pandemic.
